Junior Service Rifle Team

The TRPC junior service rifle team program (The Androgynous Prairie Chickens) was established to teach marksmanship fundamentals to junior shooters and to help them improve their skills so they can qualify as a member of the Texas State Junior Service Rifle Team at the National Rifle Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio. The program is open to juniors from age fourteen through nineteen.

The program consists of classroom training, hands-on skills training, monthly club competitions, and selected key tournaments. Key tournaments are the Texas State Hi-Power Championships, the Panola County Gun Club Regional Tournament, and the Texas State Service Rifle Championships. Equipment (rifles, ammunition, spotting scopes) is provided by TRPC at no cost; certain personal items (shooting jacket, gloves) must be purchased by the shooter. Coaching and training is provided by experienced, qualified shooters who are also actively competing at a National level. Additional information may be found in the attached Junior Program Fact Sheet.

2018 TRPC High Power Rifle Enhancements

There are many exciting changes coming to High Power Rifle at TRPC in 2018. The biggest one is that the matches in odd-numbered months will be CMP sanctioned, with the even-numbered months sanctioned by the NRA as in past years. All matches will be 80-round matches, though you can choose to shoot a 50-round match in NRA months. There will be no alibis allowed in the CMP matches, and rapid fire stages are started from position and not from standing.

The next match, on January 13th, will be an 80-round CMP match.

RESULTS | 2016 North Texas Juniors Open

We had 46 shooters competing in the 2016 North Texas Juniors Open and each shooter brought their own cheering section. Mom's, Dad's, Brother's, Sister's, Grandma and Grandpa's and Shooting Coaches. The weather cooperated and the targets were good. Nicholas Godfrey won the Junior Championship with a score of 98 out of 100. He was tied with Austin Rieth, but Austin was a no-show for the shoot off event. Sean Packer won the Sub-Junior Championship with a score of 94. The Lady Junior Champion was Morgan Scott posting a score of 95 and the Lady Sub-Junior Champion was Charli Abendroth with a score of 93. All of these young shooters shot well. They were safety conscious, well disciplined and demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship.

Particularly noteworthy was the number of Club members who volunteered their time to make this event so successful. The machines worked without any problems, they were loaded with targets quickly between events and the Referees did a super job of keeping the squads organized and safe. Everyone enjoyed the Burgers and Dogs from the grill and the prizes that were donated by both individuals and corporations were wonderful.

Our next shoot will be a one day, one gun competition on Saturday, October 15th. Our Annual "Big Bore Open" shooting 100 targets in a 12 gauge event. Should be a good time with lots of serious Texas skeet shooters from the Dallas Metroplex.
